Low Distortion IR Corrected 1.8mm Wide-Angle M12 Lens for Surveillance

Low Distortion IR Corrected 1.8mm M12 Lens

The CIL019 is a 1.8mm F/1.6 Wide Angle IR Corrected S-Mount with Low Distortion. The lens is suitable for up to 5MP 1/2.7" sensors such as the IMX662. The optical characteristics make this lens ideal for surveillance applications. The barrel is plastic and the lens cannot be ingress protected; filters must also be mounted within the lens holder.

Frequently asked questions

What sensors is the CIL019 1.8mm IR corrected M12 lens compatible with?

The CIL019 is designed for 1/2.7\" sensors at 2-3MP, including the Sony IMX662. Its 6.6mm image circle fully covers this format.

What IR correction performance does the CIL019 provide?

The CIL019 holds focal shift under 7 microns MBFL from visible to 850nm NIR. Day/night cameras that alternate between a 650nm cut filter and open NIR mode maintain sharp focus without mechanical refocusing.

Why does the CIL019 spec show +48% F-theta if it is called low distortion?

F-theta distortion and TV distortion are different measurements. +48% F-θ describes how angular field position maps to image height — not the same as barrel or pincushion distortion. The 'low distortion' claim refers to conventional TV distortion, which is comparatively low for a wide-angle lens at this focal length.

Can the CIL019 be used with external optical filters?

Yes, but filters must be mounted in the lens holder, not inside the lens body. The M12P plastic barrel does not support internal filter installation.

Is the CIL019 M12P variant ingress protected?

No. The M12P variant has no ingress protection. Outdoor or humid deployments require an external housing or sealed enclosure.

What lens holder does the CIL019 require?

The CIL019 requires a standard 9mm-13mm tall M12x0.5 lens holder. The Commonlands CLA018 is the recommended compatible mount. iDS uEye LE Rev1.2 users must order the PN ending in C-NO.

The CIL019 is a 1.8mm F/1.6 IR corrected wide-angle M12 lens with low TV distortion and a 2G5P optical construction. It's designed for surveillance and embedded imaging where you need wide angular coverage, stable performance across visible and NIR illumination, and minimal object distortion. The IR correction holds focal shift under 7 microns MBFL from visible to 850nm — day/night systems that toggle between a cut filter and open NIR mode maintain focus without mechanical adjustment.

Format type is 1/2.7", suitable for sensors like the Sony IMX662. Resolution is rated for 2-3MP. The image circle is 6.6mm as designed. FoV is 87° at 3.2mm image circle — this sits firmly in the wide-angle category, not fisheye. Objects retain natural perspective with comparatively low barrel distortion for this focal length class. The F/1.6 aperture gives meaningful low-light performance for a lens in this size range.

One mechanical variant: M12P. BBAR coating on the first lens surface, AL6061 aluminum cap, plastic barrel. No ingress protection. Two practical consequences: this lens cannot be sealed for outdoor or high-humidity environments without an external housing, and optical filters cannot be installed inside the lens — they must be mounted in the lens holder. Design your optical stack accordingly if you're adding bandpass or IR cut filters externally.

Camera compatibility is solid for standard M12 board configurations with a 9mm-13mm tall holder. Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE (Rev1.1 confirmed; Rev1.2 requires the PN suffix C-NO), and The Imaging Source M12 boards all mount this lens mechanically. D3 Camera Module users should contact D3 Engineering directly for compatibility confirmation.
