Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL161 16mm M12 lens?

The CIL161 supports 1/2 inch sensors resolving 3–5MP at 2.2μm pixel pitch, including the OmniVision OX05B1S. The 8.0mm image circle covers the full 1/2 inch format.

How much distortion does the CIL161 have?

The CIL161 has just -0.3% rectilinear distortion — effectively distortion-free. This makes it strong for measurement, OCR, and any application requiring geometric precision at distance.

Is the CIL161 good for license plate recognition?

Yes. The 15.6mm EFL, -0.3% distortion, and IR correction for day/night operation make the CIL161 well suited for ALPR and LPR cameras that need sharp text recognition at range.

What is the difference between CIL161-F2.0-M12A650 and M12ANIR?

CIL161-F2.0-M12A650 includes a 650nm IR cut filter for standard daylight imaging. CIL161-F2.0-M12ANIR ships without a filter for NIR-sensitive applications and dual-band day/night cameras.

Does the CIL161 ship same day from the US?

Yes. Commonlands ships all in-stock lenses same day from San Diego for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

What lens mount fits the CIL161?

The Commonlands CLA018 18mm lens holder is the recommended mount. e-con boards need a 10–13mm tall holder. FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, TIS, and Basler Dart accept M12 directly.

The CIL161 is an IR corrected 16mm M12 lens for 1/2" sensors, resolving 3–5MP at 2.2μm pixel pitch. At 15.6mm EFL with F/2.0, this is a telephoto M12 optic that gives you a tight 28.8° field of view across the 8.0mm image circle — ideal for license plate recognition, perimeter surveillance, and long-range inspection where you need to resolve detail at distance.

The -0.3% rectilinear distortion is essentially zero. Straight lines stay straight. That matters for dimensional measurement, OCR at range, and any application where geometric accuracy drives your result. The IR correction keeps the focal plane stable across visible and near-IR wavelengths, so day/night cameras using RGBIR sensors like the OX05B1S stay sharp without mechanical refocus.

All-glass construction in a compact 5g package. The glass optics and aluminum barrel handle thermal expansion better than hybrid plastic-glass designs, which is why this lens works well in outdoor enclosures that cycle between direct sun and overnight cold.

Two filter options: CIL161-F2.0-M12A650 with 650nm IRC for standard daylight, CIL161-F2.0-M12ANIR without filter for NIR-sensitive setups. Compatible with FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart cameras. e-con boards need a 10–13mm tall holder. The Commonlands CLA018 is the recommended M12 lens mount.
