Frequently asked questions

What sensors does the CIL046 4.4mm M12 lens support?

The CIL046 supports 1/1.7 inch sensors up to 8MP at 1.85μm pixel pitch, including the Sony IMX334 and ON Semiconductor AR0820. The 8.8mm image circle covers the full sensor diagonal.

What does IR corrected mean on the CIL046?

IR correction means the CIL046 stays in focus across visible and near-infrared wavelengths at the same time. Standard lenses usually shift focus between day and night modes, but this one does not.

How much distortion does the CIL046 have?

The CIL046 has -14% rectilinear distortion and -8% TV distortion at the 8.9mm image circle. That is the tradeoff for a fast F/2.0 aperture and IR correction in a wide-angle lens, and software correction works well in many machine vision pipelines.

Is the CIL046 suitable for day/night security cameras?

Yes. The RGBIR-corrected optics are a good fit for day/night cameras because focus stays stable across visible and NIR wavelengths. Switching modes does not require refocusing. Plan your depth of field at depth of field calculator

Does the CIL046 ship same day from the United States?

Yes. Commonlands ships all in-stock lenses same day from San Diego, California for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

What cameras are compatible with the CIL046 M12 lens?

The CIL046 is mechanically compatible with Commonlands CLA019 holders, FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source M12, and Basler Dart S-mount cameras. Use a 10–15mm tall holder for e-con Systems boards.

The CIL046 is a 4.4mm IR-corrected M12 lens for 1/1.7" sensors up to 8MP at 1.85μm pixel pitch. At F/2.0 it gives you useful low-light performance, and the RGBIR correction keeps the image in focus across visible and near-infrared light instead of shifting between day and night modes.

The lens covers 100° across an 8.9mm image circle. Distortion is -14% rectilinear and -8% TV, which is higher than a low-distortion design but is the normal tradeoff when you want wide angle, fast aperture, and IR correction in one package. On sensors like the IMX334 and AR0820, that tradeoff usually makes sense for cameras that need both coverage and spectral stability. Check angular coverage at field of view calculator

The optical stack uses twelve all-glass elements in an aluminum barrel. At 14g, this lens is heavier than most M12 models because a 12-element IR-corrected design needs real glass to control aberrations. The all-glass, all-metal construction also stays stable in outdoor and industrial environments.

The single M12A mechanical variant ships with BBAR coating on the first surface and no IP rating. You should use it in an enclosed housing or pair it with a sealed camera module if the environment is dirty or wet. The lens is mechanically compatible with Commonlands CLA019 lens holders, FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart cameras. A 10–15mm tall holder fits e-con Systems boards.

Commonlands ships this lens same day from San Diego before 12 PM PST. It is also available as CIL046-F2.0-M12ADB851 with a 650nm IRC plus CDB851 bandpass filter for specialized multispectral applications. Contact our engineers for volume pricing.
