Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL068 6.8mm M12 lens?

The CIL068 supports 1/1.8 inch and 1/2 inch sensors up to 12MP at 1.55μm pixel pitch. It pairs well with the Sony IMX477 and IMX412 in high-resolution machine vision systems.

How much distortion does the CIL068 have?

The CIL068 has just -3% rectilinear distortion. That is low enough for dimensional measurement, barcode reading, and automated optical inspection without software correction in many setups.

Can the CIL068 be used for barcode reading and machine vision inspection?

Yes. The CIL068 works well for barcode scanning, OCR, dimensional measurement, and AOI because it combines -3% distortion with 12MP resolution. The all-glass 8-element design has the resolving power needed for small feature detection on production lines.

What is the image circle of the CIL068?

The image circle is 7.833mm, which gives clean edge-to-edge illumination on 1/2 inch format sensors. The 62° field of view is specified at the 8.0mm image circle diameter. Plan working distance with our depth of field calculator at depth of field calculator

Does the CIL068 M12 lens ship from the United States?

Yes. Commonlands ships all in-stock lenses same day from San Diego, California for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

Are mechanical drawings and 3D models available for the CIL068?

Yes. 3D STP models and mechanical drawings are available on the product page and by request to engineering@commonlands.com for CAD integration.

The CIL068 is a 6.8mm low-distortion M12 lens for 1/1.8" sensors up to 12MP at 1.55μm pixel pitch. At F/2.5 with just -3% rectilinear distortion, it fits the kind of machine vision work where geometry matters, including dimensional measurement, barcode scanning, and inspection on sensors like the IMX477 and IMX412.

The lens gives 62° across an 8.0mm image circle. The 7.833mm image circle spec keeps illumination clean into the corners on 1/2" format sensors, and the low distortion means straight features stay straight enough for AOI, pick-and-place guidance, and other yield-sensitive processes without leaning hard on software correction. The optical stack uses eight all-glass elements plus IRC in an aluminum barrel. The 12g weight is higher than a miniature M12 lens, but the extra glass is what buys you better aberration correction at 12MP. The all-metal construction also helps keep thermal focus shift out of factory-floor and outdoor installations.

The single M12A variant ships with BBAR coating and no IP rating. You should put it in a sealed enclosure if the environment is harsh. The lens is mechanically compatible with Commonlands CLA019 lens holders, FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart cameras. A 10–15mm tall holder fits e-con Systems boards.

Commonlands ships this lens same day from San Diego before 12 PM PST. Every unit is Trioptics MTF tested at 100%. It is available with or without a 650nm IR cut filter. Contact our optical engineers for volume pricing or to discuss depth of field requirements at depth of field calculator
