Häufig gestellte Fragen

What sensors does the CIL436 zoom M12 lens support?

The CIL436 covers 1/2.7″ sensors at up to 2MP with 3μm pixel pitch and projects a 6.7mm image circle. That is the sensor class it was built around.

How much zoom range does the CIL436 provide?

The lens gives about 2.5-3X optical zoom from 4mm to 9mm EFL. At 4mm, it reaches 141° FoV and then narrows toward a normal field at 9mm.

Is the CIL436 compatible with FLIR Blackfly S cameras?

Yes. The CIL436 is mechanically compatible with FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium S-mount, The Imaging Source M12, and Basler Dart S-mount cameras.

What is the distortion on the CIL436 at the wide end?

At 4mm, the lens is specified at -65% distortion. That is very high, so a fixed-focal low-distortion lens is the better choice if geometry matters at the wide end.

Does the CIL436 come with an IR cut filter?

Yes. You can order CIL436-F2.0-M12A650 with a 650nm IRC filter or CIL436-F2.0-M12ANIR without the filter for NIR or dual-band work.

Does the CIL436 M12 zoom lens ship from the US?

Yes. Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from the San Diego warehouse.

The CIL436 is a 4mm-9mm varifocal zoom M12 lens with about 2.5-3X optical zoom for up to 2MP on 1/2.7" sensors. At the 4mm end, it covers 141° across a 6.7mm image circle, so this is a wide-angle zoom rather than a long-range zoom. If you need to tune field of view without swapping lenses, it covers the wide-to-normal range many embedded vision projects actually use.

The tradeoff is distortion at the wide end. The lens reaches -65% barrel distortion at 4mm, which rules it out for applications that need geometric accuracy unless you are willing to do aggressive software correction. The distortion drops as you zoom longer, so surveillance, monitoring, and prototyping are much better fits than precision measurement. Calculate your field of view to model coverage on your sensor format.

The lens uses glass optics in an aluminum barrel and weighs 30g. The aperture is F/2.0 at the wide end and stops down to F/3.0 at 9mm, so you gain framing flexibility but lose some light as you zoom in. The lens is available with a 650nm IR cut filter as CIL436-F2.0-M12A650 or without the filter as CIL436-F2.0-M12ANIR. Focus is adjusted after the lens is secured in its mount.

Mechanical compatibility is broad. Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart S-mount cameras all work with it. The lens works with the Commonlands CLA019 holder (10-12mm tall mount) and other compatible M12 mounts.

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego. Contact Commonlands for volume pricing on production quantities.
