215° Zero F-Theta Fisheye M12 Lens for IP67 Embedded Vision

215°@6.8mm M12 Fisheye Lens

The CIL220 is a small form-factor 1.8mm M12 Fisheye lens which provides a 215° Field of View at 6.8mm image circle. The nearly 0% F-theta distortion results in consistent magnification in the 160° FoV range. Additionally, the small size, IP67-rating, and all-glass all-metal make it great for embedded vision systems.

Frequently asked questions

What is the field of view of the CIL220 M12 fisheye lens?

The CIL220 provides a 215-degree field of view at a 6.8mm image circle, which makes it one of the widest M12 fisheye lenses available.

What does 0% F-theta distortion mean on the CIL220 215° fisheye?

F-theta, or F-θ, distortion describes how angular field position maps to image height. At 0% F-θ, magnification stays consistent across the field, so objects in the central 160-degree range are not compressed relative to the image center.

What is the difference between the CIL220 M12B and M12C variants?

Both variants are IP69K-rated and use AL6061 aluminum construction. M12C adds a hydrophobic coating on the first lens surface to repel water droplets and resist fouling from rain or spray, while M12B uses BBAR anti-reflection coating instead.

What cameras are mechanically compatible with the CIL220 fisheye M12 lens?

The CIL220 needs a 7mm-9mm tall M12 holder. The Commonlands CLA018 and e-con Systems standard S-mount boards are confirmed compatible, while Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, and The Imaging Source M12 boards are not.

Does the CIL220 ship with or without a 650nm IRC filter?

Both filter options are available. CIL220-F2.3-M12C650 includes a pre-installed 650nm IRC filter, and CIL220-F2.3-M12CNIR ships without a filter for NIR or broadband use.

Is volume pricing available on the CIL220 M12 fisheye lens?

Yes. Volume pricing begins at 50 units, with tiers at 100, 250, 500, 1k, 2.5k, 5k, 10k, and 25k. Contact Commonlands for a formal quote.

CIL220 is a 1.8mm F/2.3 fisheye M12 lens with a 215-degree field of view at a 6.8mm image circle. It is one of the widest options available in a standard M12 package. The unusual part is the near-zero F-theta distortion across the central 160-degree range.

Most fisheyes past 200 degrees compress the periphery hard. This lens suppresses that in the part of the image where many machine vision systems care most, especially in object detection, distance estimation, and omnidirectional surveillance.

Format coverage extends to 2/3" for circular fisheye imaging. At F/2.3, the lens targets 2-5MP on 1/1.7" sensors. At F/2.8, the same optical formula supports 8MP and above on 1/1.7" sensors. Total weight is 4.0g and TTL is 16.3mm, which is compact for 215 degrees coverage.

Two mechanical variants are available. M12B uses BBAR coating on lens surface 1 with an IP69K-rated AL6061 aluminum cap and barrel. M12C replaces BBAR with a hydrophobic coating on the first lens surface, which helps the lens shed water and resist fouling in rain, spray, and condensation. Both variants need a 7mm-9mm tall M12 holder, and that requirement is a hard mechanical limit.

Most standard industrial board cameras do not fit. Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, and The Imaging Source M12 boards are mechanically incompatible. Confirmed options are the Commonlands CLA018 holder and e-con Systems standard S-mount boards with 7-9mm holders. Basler Dart users should confirm compatibility with Basler directly. STP files and mechanical drawings are available on the product page, orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego, and volume pricing starts at 50 units.
