Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL358 wide-angle 6mm M12 lens?

The CIL358 supports 1/1.7 inch sensors up to 10MP at 2.1μm pixel pitch, including the OX08B40, IMX226, and AR0822. Its 9.7mm image circle fully covers the 1/1.7 inch format.

How much distortion does the CIL358 have?

The CIL358 has -9% F-Theta distortion measured at the 8.0mm image circle. That is workable for navigation and surveillance, but dimensional measurement and structured light systems should calibrate it out.

Is the CIL358 weatherproof for outdoor use?

Yes. The M12A variant is IP67 rated with a sealed aluminum barrel and BBAR coating, so it works for outdoor use.

What cameras are mechanically compatible with the CIL358?

The CIL358 is mechanically compatible with e-con Systems, using a 10-13mm holder, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart S-mount cameras when you The Commonlands CLA024 lens holder is one compatible mounting option.

Does Commonlands ship the CIL358 same day from the US?

Yes. Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from our San Diego warehouse.

Are mechanical drawings and 3D models available for the CIL358?

Yes. The product page includes a 3D model viewer, and engineering@commonlands.com can provide STP files and detailed mechanical drawings for CAD integration.

The CIL358 is a 5.8mm EFL wide-angle M12 lens for 1/1.7" sensors up to 10MP at 2.1μm pixel pitch. It gives you an 85° horizontal field of view at F/1.9 with an 8.0mm image circle, and the 9.7mm total image circle covers the OX08B40, IMX226, and AR0822 with room to spare. This is the lens you choose when a 3mm part is too wide and a 12mm part feels restrictive.

The distortion is -9% F-Theta. That is moderate for a wide-angle design, and you should plan to calibrate it out if you are doing dimensional measurement or structured light. Surveillance, robotics navigation, and general machine vision usually tolerate it well. You can check sensor coverage at field of view calculator

The lens uses all-glass elements in an aluminum barrel. That all-metal construction helps hold focus through temperature swings, and the stray-light optimization keeps ghosting and flare under control in high dynamic range scenes where cheaper lenses usually start to fall apart.

The M12A variant is IP67 rated with BBAR coating on the first surface. Order CIL358-F1.9-M12A650 with a 650nm IR cut filter for daylight use or CIL358-F1.9-M12ANIR without filter for NIR-sensitive applications. The lens fits e-con Systems with a 10-13mm holder, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart when used with a Commonlands CLA024 lens holder.
