Frequently asked questions

What sensors does the CIL093 2.8mm M12 lens support?

The CIL093 supports 1/2.5\" sensors resolving 5MP at 2.2μm pixel pitch, including the Sony IMX577. The 7.6mm image circle covers the full 1/2.5\" sensor diagonal.

Why does the CIL093 use molded glass aspheres?

Molded glass aspheres deliver thermal stability that plastic elements cannot. The all-glass construction holds focus across -20°C to 60°C operating temperatures — critical for outdoor robotics and surveillance cameras that cycle through wide temperature ranges daily.

How much distortion does the CIL093 have?

The CIL093 has -3% TV distortion across the 7.6mm image circle. For a 112° wide-angle lens, that is notably low. Most competing 2.8mm M12 lenses in this format run 5–10% barrel distortion.

Is the CIL093 NIR corrected for day/night cameras?

Yes. The CIL093 is NIR corrected, so visible and near-infrared wavelengths focus to the same plane. Order CIL093-F2.4-M12ANIR for day/night systems using 850nm or 940nm IR illumination.

What cameras work with the CIL093 2.8mm M12 lens?

Compatible with e-con Systems S-mount, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source M12, and Basler Dart cameras. Use the Commonlands CLA018 lens holder for mounting. Note: iDS uEye Rev1.2 requires the part number ending in C-NO.

Does the CIL093 ship same day from the US?

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from our San Diego warehouse. Contact engineering@commonlands.com for volume pricing or to request MTF test data for the CIL093.

The CIL093 is a 2.8mm wide-angle M12 lens that resolves 5MP at 2.2μm pixel pitch on 1/2.5" sensors like the IMX577. What makes this lens different from most 2.8mm options is the construction: seven glass elements plus two molded glass aspheres in an AL6061 barrel. No plastic optics. That glass-only design means the focus point stays put across a -20°C to 60°C operating range, which plastic-element lenses simply cannot match.

The 112° field of view across a 7.6mm image circle gives you wide coverage for robotics, security, and outdoor monitoring. Distortion is -3% TV — low for a lens this wide. Most competing 2.8mm M12 lenses in this price range run 5–10% barrel distortion. At -3%, you can run edge detection and object tracking without heavy distortion correction. Check your specific sensor coverage at https://commonlands.com/pages/camera-field-of-view-calculator.

NIR corrected optics keep both visible and near-infrared wavelengths in focus on the same plane. This is critical for day/night cameras using IR illumination — the image stays sharp at 850nm without mechanical refocusing. F/2.4 fixed aperture pulls in enough light for indoor and outdoor use. Total weight: 9.1g.

The M12A variant ships with or without a 650nm IR cut filter. Order CIL093-F2.4-M12A650 for daylight-only systems or CIL093-F2.4-M12ANIR for NIR and day/night applications. Compatible with e-con Systems, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart cameras using the Commonlands CLA018 lens holder. Note: iDS uEye Rev1.2 requires the part number ending in "C-NO".

Ships same day from San Diego for orders placed before 12 PM PST. Every CIL093 is 100% MTF tested at our ISO 9001:2015 facility. Contact engineering@commonlands.com for volume pricing or depth of field analysis — our calculator at https://commonlands.com/pages/camera-depth-of-field-calculator can help you get started.
