Frequently asked questions

What sensors are compatible with the CIL142 14mm M12 lens?

The CIL142 covers 1/1.7″ and 1/1.8″ sensors including the Sony IMX226 and ON Semiconductor AR0820. Its 9.3mm image circle fully covers those formats.

How much distortion does the CIL142 telephoto lens have?

The CIL142 has -0.4% TV distortion. That is low enough that most barcode, OCR, and dimensional measurement pipelines can run without software correction.

What is the difference between the F/2.6 and F/4.1 CIL142 variants?

The F/2.6 variant resolves 12MP at 1.85μm pixel pitch and gives you more light. The F/4.1 variant resolves 8MP at 2.1μm and gives you more depth of field.

Which lens holders work with the CIL142 M12 lens?

The Commonlands CLA024 is one compatible holder, and other mounts work as well. Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart also accept the CIL142 directly, while e-con Systems boards need a 10-12mm tall holder.

Does the CIL142 ship same day from the US?

Yes. Commonlands ships in-stock lenses same day from San Diego for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

Can I get a mechanical drawing or 3D model for the CIL142?

Yes. The product page includes a 3D model viewer, and engineering@commonlands.com can provide .STP files and detailed mechanical drawings for CAD integration.

The CIL142 gives 34° field of view across a 9.3mm image circle on 1/1.7" sensors like the IMX226 and AR0820. That is the kind of coverage you use when you need to see a small region clearly from farther back instead of filling the frame with background. The F/2.6 variant resolves 12MP at 1.85μm pixel pitch, while the F/4.1 variant handles 8MP at 2.1μm and gives you more depth of field.

The distortion is -0.4% TV, which is close enough to zero for most machine vision pipelines. Barcode reading, OCR, and dimensional measurement usually work without a distortion-correction step when the mechanics are set up well. You can confirm coverage on your sensor at field of view calculator

The optical stack uses a 6-element all-glass design with an IR cut filter. The aluminum barrel keeps the assembly at 4.3g, so robotic arm end-effectors and gantry inspection heads do not pick up unnecessary weight.

The M12A variant adds BBAR coating on the first surface plus an AL6061 aluminum cap and barrel. It fits Commonlands CLA024 lens holders, FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart board cameras. e-con Systems boards need a 10-12mm tall holder.

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego. Contact our optical engineers for volume pricing or to discuss depth of field at your working distance. Our calculator at depth of field calculator can help you estimate it.
