Frequently asked questions

What sensors does the CIL716 2.2mm M7 lens support?

The CIL716 supports 1/3″ to 1/2.9″ sensors such as the GC2093 at 1MP resolution across a 6.3mm image circle. That is the sensor range it was built around.

How small is the CIL716 M7 lens?

The CIL716 measures 10.5mm x 10.5mm and weighs 0.9g. That makes it a strong fit for doorbell cameras, IoT devices, USB cameras, and other space-constrained systems.

Is the CIL716 compatible with M12 mount cameras?

No. The CIL716 uses M7x0.35 threading, which is smaller than M12x0.5. It will not fit Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, or Basler Dart cameras without a different mechanical interface.

What is the distortion on the CIL716 wide-angle M7 lens?

The lens is specified at +8% F-Theta, which is a mild pincushion distortion. That is moderate for a 160° lens, and the edge expansion can actually help in surveillance-style views.

Does the CIL716 M7 lens ship same day from the US?

Yes. Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from the San Diego warehouse.

Can the CIL716 be used in outdoor applications?

Not by itself. The CIL716 has no ingress protection rating, so it should go in an enclosure if the application is outdoors.

The CIL716 is a 2.2mm wide-angle M7 lens for 1/3" to 1/2.9" sensors such as the GC2093. At 0.9g and 10.5mm x 10.5mm, it is one of the smallest lenses Commonlands carries. If your project has a hard size limit and still needs 160° field of view in an M7x0.35 thread, this is the obvious place to start.

The F/3.8 fixed aperture is slower than a typical M12 wide-angle, so you should not expect strong low-light performance. The +8% F-Theta distortion gives a mild pincushion effect, and that can actually help in surveillance or doorbell views where edge content filling the frame is more useful than strict geometry. The 6.3mm image circle covers 1/2.9" sensors at 1MP resolution. Use the field of view calculator at field of view calculator to check coverage on your sensor.

The construction uses hybrid glass/plastic elements in an AL6061 aluminum barrel. The lens has no ingress protection rating, so it belongs in indoor products or inside a sealed enclosure. It is available only with a 650nm IR cut filter as CIL716-F3.8-M07A650.

Mechanical compatibility is limited by the M7 thread. The Commonlands CLA718 M7 holder with 18mm spacing mounts it directly, and iDS uEye LE Rev1.1 works as well. Rev1.2 requires the part number ending in C-NO. Allied Vision, FLIR, and Basler cameras use M12 threads, so they are not compatible, and The Imaging Source users should check directly for M7 options.

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego. At $19 per unit, the CIL716 is priced for volume IoT and consumer electronics deployments. Contact Commonlands for production quantity pricing.
